Keiji Asakura ASLA, CLARB Founding Principal & Designer
“No matter our cultural background, the natural environment speaks to everyone without a language barrier – it universally connects us. ”
Keiji has devoted himself to landscape architecture and its value to humanity through a profusion of meaningful and compelling service projects. He personally realizes the energy existing between people and places, and embraces human-infrastructure when enhancing communities through his designs. Keiji is a tireless advocate for community-inclusive designs and believes richer urban spaces are reflections of peoples’ diverse preferences and circumstances.
With designs extending nationally and internationally, most of Keiji’s 38 years of experience in urban design, landscape architecture and planning has been dedicated to transforming communities and urban spaces throughout Houston. His efforts have successfully spanned a highly diverse range of communities, with a focus on historically disadvantaged Hispanic, Asian, and African-American urban neighborhoods. As an active board member of Keep Houston Beautiful, Keiji dedicated 16 years and thousands of volunteer hours to beautifying Houston neighborhoods.
Keiji places high regard for public service as evidenced by his receipt of the 2011 American Society Landscape Architects Distinguished Member Award, the 2009 President’s Call for Service Award, and the City of Houston Mayor White’s 2005 Proud Partner Award for Distinguished Service. In the capacity of an urban planner, Keiji was appointed by Houston Mayor Annise Parker to be a member of Houston’s Planning Commission in 2010.
Keiji is the Founding Principal of Asakura Robinson, a firm noted for providing community-driven landscape design solutions and planning leadership.
